Diastasis Recti: Have your abs separated?

Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA) is a common condition in pregnancy and postpartum where the abdominal muscles stretch and separate along the midline (the linea alba). You may notice a bulge or gap in your belly, especially when sitting up or lifting.

    Why does it happen?

During pregnancy, the growing uterus and hormonal changes stretch the connective tissue between the abdominal muscles. After childbirth, if the muscles do not naturally return to proper alignment and function, diastasis recti can persist and lead to:

    • Core weakness
    • Lower back pain
    • Pelvic floor dysfunction
    • Poor posture and instability

    How we treat it:

At Orthopaedics Plus, we assess the severity of the separation and build a safe, progressive program to:

    • Strengthen deep core muscles (transverse abdominis and pelvic floor)
    • Correct breathing patterns and pressure management
    • Rebuild stability and control through the abdominal wall
    • Prevent worsening during daily activities or exercise

We’ll help you restore core function—no crash diets, no unsafe exercises, just expert, personalized care.

  • Unexplained vagina, groin, tail bone, and abdominal pain postpartum?

Unexplained vagina, groin, tail bone, and abdominal pain postpartum?

Lingering pain after childbirth—especially in the vaginal, groin, tailbone (coccyx), or abdominal areas—is common, but not normal. These pains may result from:

    • Muscle strain or tearing during labor
    • Nerve irritation or compression
    • Pelvic floor muscle tightness or dysfunction
    • Scar tissue from C-sections or episiotomies

    How we treat it:

Our pelvic health specialists use gentle, evidence-based techniques to:

    • Relieve soft tissue and nerve tension
    • Rehabilitate pelvic floor function
    • Reduce inflammation and discomfort
    • Improve mobility and strength for daily function and parenting tasks

You deserve a postpartum recovery plan that addresses the whole body—not just what's visible.

  • Back/SI/pelvic pain with your pregnancy

    Back/SI/pelvic pain with your pregnancy

Pain in the low back, sacroiliac (SI) joints, or pelvis is one of the most common complaints during pregnancy. As your baby grows, your center of gravity shifts, your ligaments loosen (thanks to relaxin), and your muscles work overtime to keep you stable.

    What causes it?

    • Hormonal changes loosening joints and connective tissues
    • Postural shifts increasing strain on muscles and joints
    • Core and glute weakness or imbalances
    • Pelvic floor overactivity or poor coordination

    How we treat it:

Our prenatal physical therapy services focus on:

    • Gentle manual therapy to reduce joint and muscle pain
    • Safe exercises to strengthen your core and support posture
    • SI belt and support education if needed
    • Breathing and movement strategies to reduce pressure on sensitive areas

Our goal is to help you enjoy your pregnancy, sleep better, and prepare your body for birth with confidence.
