Emily Schmidt

Therapist

Hello everyone!

My name is Emily and I am extremely passionate about patient care. When I was younger, I had a lot of knee dislocations and multiple knee surgeries, so I was a patient many times. My favorite health care workers throughout my recovery were my physical therapists. I felt like they were always there for me and made the effort to truly listen to me. A strong relationship between patient and therapist is very important to me, knowing we are working together as a team to build the best treatment for the patient to return to the life they deserve to live.

Influenced by the amazing PTs who treated me, I knew I was going to be a Physical Therapist by high school. I immediately went into Kinesiology at the University of Virginia to study the movement of the body, then after graduation received my Masters in Anatomy and Clinical Health Science at the University of Delaware, all while completing my Doctorate of Physical Therapy there. I am an extremely determined individual and will be just as determined to help you with whatever problem you throw my way.

Growing up, I played basketball, softball, and swimming and focused mostly on swimming due to my knees. My love for all three sports is strong, able to return to softball in PT school and win the intramural championship at University of Delaware with my physical therapy class! Don't challenge me in a shooting competition for basketball either, I became an amazing shot when all I could do during my knee recovery was shoot and not run all over the court.

Outside of PT, you can probably find me spending to much money at Starbucks, following a yoga workout on YouTube, swimming in the pool, doing any sort of artwork, or watching University of Virginia basketball during basketball season. Go hoos!

I am excited to meet you all coming through the door! You'll know it's me with my vibrant red hair and bubbly personality. Make sure to say hi!
