Vincent Buscemi

Therapist

I am one of the founding members of Orthopaedics Plus, established in 1986 in Winchester, MA. That makes me, well, old. What never gets old is my passion for helping people overcome their physical abilities and challenges. So I came back to help. After 40 years of experience as a physical therapist, I enjoy saying, "there is a lesson in each one of these gray hairs on my head." My interests and expertise early in my career focused on orthopedics and sports injuries. However, somewhere along the way, "my interest" in helping patients was replaced by "my purpose" to help people improve their lives regardless of where they are in their health span. Many illnesses, such as osteoarthritis, are chronic, progressive conditions. Acute recurrent pain can turn into a chronic problem. The rate of progression of the pain/illness, and degree of impairment, vary in different people. Injuries and gradual pain onset happen at all ages, and an individual's participation in sports, exercise, or life becomes smaller if not addressed. You can be too young to give up or play through a recurrent problem. But if you're older, you didn't come this far to give up! Getting to the root cause and learning what you can do independently to nurture yourself to better health is priceless. To me, doing nothing is not acceptable. And that's because doing nothing usually ends up with more complex problems. I have witnessed it many, many times. But wherever you are in your health and lifespan, you can benefit from understanding how to improve your current situation.

After founding Orthopaedics Plus in 1986 with Bill Antonelli PT and Al Visnick PT, my clinical path led me/us to;

  • Expand Orthopaedics Plus services to Winchester, Burlington, and Beverly in 1998 with Ellen Poveromo
  • Co-Director of physical and occupational therapy Winchester Hospital 1993-2019.
  • WORKSENSE® Program: A full-service prevention, work injury, and return to work program to empower employers to reduce work-related costs.
  • We established onsite prevention and work injury programs for fortune 500 companies, including; Bayer (Agfa), Kraft foods, GE, Hertz, Good Year, and others.
  • Support and watch Mike Stare, PT, develop Spectrum Fitness.
  • One of four founding members of The Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, offering post-graduate PT weekend seminars, one-year and two-year residency programs with Martin Langaas PT in 1991.
  • Oncology Rehabilitation: Co-spearheaded an evidenced-based multidisciplinary approach to support patients undergoing cancer treatments to minimize cancer-related disabilities at Winchester Hospital Cancer Center and later part of the Lahey Health Cancer Institute.
  • Honored to assist numerous Olympic athletes in the Massachusetts area and attended the 1992 and 1994 winter Olympics.
  • In 2017, the Orthopaedics Plus founders decided it was time to plan how we would pass on the orthopedics plus brand and culture to the next generation. Ultimately, it mattered to the founders that the culture of patient care, clinical learning, and mutual trust in the community continued. We knew the best people to do this were the people working with us all along.

    In 2018 Mike Stare and Justin Pezick were the perfect candidates and have accomplished much more while maintaining the OP culture and mutual trust in the community.
